It has been said many times
that The North Coast of Ireland is a land of
outstanding natural beauty and this DVD,
financed by The Fullerton Arms, a three star
restaurant in the centre of Ballintoy
village, shows off many features of this
section of The North Antrim Coast, the most
spectacular coastline in Europe.
Just a short drive from Ballintoy is the
Giants Causeway, the most famous landmark
in Ireland. The Causeway is visited by
thousands of tourists every year and this
DVD explains the origin of this wonderful
complex of basalt columns.
Whitepark Bay is a beautiful spot with a
sandy beach about one mile in length. At
the end of that beach is Portbradden where
can be seen “St. Gobban’s” the smallest
church in Ireland and not far from here is
the town of Bushmills where whiskey has been
distilled for 400 years.
Around the corner from Ballintoy is
Carrick-A-Rede rope bridge. The walk across
the bridge is 60 feet, with an 80 foot drop
and is not for the faint hearted or light
headed. One should take comfort in the fact
that in 250 years only a dog has fallen off.
Five miles away is the town of Ballycastle
where we pay a visit to the famous “Oul
Lammas Fair” and hear a song written by
local man Henry McAuley, which asks “Did
you treat your Mary-Ann to some dulse and
yellow man at the Oul Lammas fair in
Ballycastle Oh?”
There is an
interesting story about Lady MacDonnell who
lost most of her kitchen staff when part of Dunluce castle fell into the sea back in
1639. The late Joey Dunlop was Ireland’s
most famous motorcycle road racer and we pay
a visit to his memorial garden and see a
list of his many achievements in his home
town of Ballymoney Songs by John Watt (The
Singing Farmer) and Ballintoy man Paddy
McCloy, a Celli Band and Irish dancers make
this DVD pleasant viewing in this unique
corner of Ireland.
